Gujarat tourism gives you an opportunity to meet Siddis, an ethnic group of Black African and/or Afro-Arab descent. In Gujarat, Siddis mainly residing in western part or around Gir Forest National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary. It is believed that Siddis are the descendants of slaves, sailors, servants and merchants from East Africa who arrived at Gujarat during the 1200-1900 AD period.

According to Siddis of Gujarat, maximum population of them are Sufi Muslims, but some are Roman Catholic Christians and some are Hindus. Though Siddis have adopted many customs and language of Gujarat, but they also preserved some African traditions. Siddi Goma dance and Siddi Goma music of Siddis of Gujarat are the examples of those African traditions.

During Gujarat tourism, its interesting to see their traditional folk dance Siddi Goma. In this dance, you can experience their rituals, their life style very close to nature and animals, their energy and their physical strength while Siddi Goma dance reached to climax in a coconut-breaking feat with the heads.
