Jaipur is the land of fairs and festivals. Splendid colors, various customs and traditions, large variety of food and different kinds of celebrations are the speciality of Jaipur festivals.

Jaipur celebrates Makar Sankranti festival at very grand level. Jaipur sky get filled by colorful traditional and fancy kites on Makar Sankranti Festival. Though Jaipurites start to fly kites in late October in some areas, but on the day of Makar Sankranti festival (14th January every year), you can find everybody on the roof and flying kites. Feeni, Til ke Laddu and Daal ke Pakode are the special food to be eaten on Makar Sankranti festival in Jaipur.

Jaipur has a huge market for traditional and fancy kites as well as Maanjha (a thread coated with glass used to fly kites). According to some financial agencies, Jaipur did the kite business of approximately 200 crore rupees in year 2011. National and International kite clubs can be found in Jaipur. On the occasion of Makar Sankranti festival in Jaipur, Rajasthan tourism department organizes kite festival every year.
