Albert hall museum was founded in 1886 during the reign period of Sawai Ram Singh II. Approximately 15,000 antiquities are in display of various galleries of the Albert Hall museum of Jaipur.

In this photo, you are watching a stone sculpture of 8th century made in Abhaneri, Dausa. You can see this sculpture in Albert Hall Museum of Jaipur. Buff and sand stone sculpture of Ravana attempting unsuccessfully to lift mount Kailash with Shiva and Parvati seated on it. Ravana, great devotee of Shiva, being denied entry to Kailash by doorkeepers, in a rage sought to carry Kailash itself away with him. As Kailash shook, Shiva placed a toe on earth, frustrating his attempts even to shake Kailash any further. Repenting, Ravana began a 1000 years worship of Shiva to appease him (Shiva Purana). A popular theme for sculptures from the 8th to 13th century and found in several places including Kashi Vishvanath, Ellora, Elephanta, Halibid and Belure, Khajuraho etc.

अल्बर्ट हॉल म्यूजियम की स्थापना वर्ष १८८६ में सवाई राम सिंह द्वितीय के शासन काल में हुई थी. जयपुर के इस अल्बर्ट हॉल म्यूजियम में विभिन्न दीर्घाओं में करीब १५००० दुर्लभ वस्तुओं के संग्रह को प्रदर्शित किया गया है.

इस फोटो में आप आभानेरी, दौसा में ८वीं शताब्दी में बनी एक पत्थर की मूर्ती देख रहे हैं जो कि जयपुर के अल्बर्ट हॉल म्यूजियम में प्रदर्शित की हुई है. बलुए पत्थर में बनी यह मूर्ति कैलाश पर्वत को हिलाने का प्रयास करते हुए रावण की मूर्ति है. एक कथा के अनुसार अनन्य शिव भक्त रावण ने जब कैलाश पर विराजे शिव के दर्शन करने के लिये जाना चाहा तो उसे द्वारपालों ने रोक दिया जिससे क्रोधित हो उसने कैलाश को ही उठाकर अपने साथ ले जाना चाहा. जब कैलाश हिला तो शिव ने अपने पैर के अंगूठे से दबा दिया. इस पर रावण को बड़ा पश्चाताप हुआ और उसने १००० वर्षों तक शिव को प्रसन्न करने के लिये घोर तपस्या की. इस कथा का वर्णन शिव पुराण में भी मिलता है. मध्यकाल में इस विषय पर बहुत मूर्तियां बनीं और इसके उत्तम उदाहरण एलोरा, एलिफेंटा, हलेबिद, वेलूर, खजुराहो आदि स्थानों पर विराजमान हैं.
